That dog was Gidget, who despite rumors that she/ he had died around 2000, just passed away at the age of 15.

Gidget also made appearances in GEICO insurance commercials and the Legally Blonde II movie (Reese Witherspoon). (Note: Gidget replaced the original Taco Bell dog, Dinky, shortly after the TV campaign started.)
