Senator Ted Kennedy Passes Away at 77

U.S. Senator Ted (Edward M.) Kennedy – known as the “Liberal Lion”, and youngest brother of President John F. Kennedy and Senator Bobby (Robert F.) Kennedy – has just passed away in Massachusetts from his fight with brain cancer. This death is roughly two weeks after his sister Eunice Shriver Kennedy passed away at 88.

Senator Kennedy has been a long-term senator and recently an active supporter of President Barack Obama as well as healthcare reform. President Obama awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom this month. His death leaves only one remaining sibling from the legendary Kennedy clan – the Senator’s older sister Jean Kennedy.

Character Actor John Quade Passes Away at 71

Actor John Quade died this past Sun Aug 9, apparently of natural of causes. The 71 year-old actor is probably best known for the villains he played in various Clint Eastwood films. He also made appearances in dozens of popular TV shows starting from Gunsmoke in 1971 to Lonesome Dove in 1993.

Legendary Guitarist Les Paul Passes Away at 94

Even if you’ve never heard his music, you’ve likely heard music performed on guitars that carry musician/ inventor Les Paul’s name. The legendary musician created the electric guitar known as the “Les Paul.” The Gibson Les Paul guitar and the the clone models it inspired has been used by many of the greatest guitarists the world over. It’s thus an understatment to say that his creation defined part of the sound of rock and roll and other musical genres.

Les Paul – born Lester William Polfuss in Wisconsin, 1915 – passed away in a New York hospital today at the age of 94, due to complications from pneumonia. Paul had been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988, and honored by them in 2008 with the American Music Master award.

Last Two Bodies Recovered From Hudson River Air Crash

Pollce divers and other rescue workers managed to recover the last bodies of passengers involved in a mid-air collision over the Hudson River on Saturday. The bodies were found inside the remains of the small plane that had collided with tour helicopter. With the recovery of these two bodies, all nine passengers on the two aircraft have been accounted for.

Eunice Kennedy Shriver Passes Away

Eunice Kennedy Shriver, member of the famous Kennedy clan and advocate for disabled athletes, passed away today at 88. Shriver’s advocacy was inspired by her puportedly disabled sister Rosemary Kennedy (who passed away in Jan 2005 at 86). She later co-founded the Special Olympics. Shriver worked for the U.S. State Department and later over the Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr., Foundation, which existed to advance the causes of disabled people. She was accompanied by her family in hospital at the time of her passing.

Other Kennedy siblings include John F., Bobby, Ted Kennedy and Jean Kennedy. The latter two are the only remaining living Kennedy siblings.

7 Bodies Pulled So Far From Hudson River Mid-air Collision

After a horrific midair collision of a tour helicopter and a small plane over the Hudson River near NYC on Friday, authorities believe all nine passengers died. So far, only seven bodies have been pulled from the river – two are still missing. U.S. Army personnel also helped pulled the helicopter out of the Hudson River.

Online Weapons Dealer Sold Guns to 3 Mass Killers

TGSCOM Inc., an online weapons dealer based in Green Bay, is defending itself in regards to some of the notorious mass killers who have purchased guns from them. This includes: George Sodini, who this week killed several people and himself in a Pittsburgh area LA Fitness; Seung-Hui Cho, who killed 32 at Virginia Tech in 2007; and Stephen Kazmierczak, who killed five people and himself in a classroom in 2008.

TGSCOM spokesman Eric Thompson says the weapons could have been easily found at a number of large department stores. Sodini may or may not have used TGSCOM-bought guns in his attack.

All Passengers Feared Dead in Helicopter/ Plane Crash Over Hudson River

Earlier today, a tour helicopter and a small airplane collided over the Hudson River near NYC. Previously, it was reported that one body had been recovered. Updates report that all passengers of both aircraft are feared dead, though only two bodies have been pulled from the water. NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg is reported to have said that such a collision was “not survivable.” One child was said to be on the plane, while the helicopter was carrying Italian tourists.

Helicopter and Plane Crash Over Hudson River in NY; At Least One Dead

Twitter and other media are reporting that a helicopter and small plane collided in midair over the Hudson River near New York City and then crashed into the river. The FDNY recovered one body, but reports differ on how many survivors have been rescued. While there were approximately six people on the helicopter, officials are still determining how many people were aboard the plane. Police divers are currently looking for survivors. The helicopter was part of a tour group, while the plane was headed towards Ocean City.

This is the 2nd Hudson River crash of aircraft this year. An US Airways plane leaving La Guardia crashed into the river in January, after hitting a flock of geese. However, all 155 passengers survived.

Veteran Writer/ Director/ Producer John Hughes Dies

Director/ Producer John Hughes died today of a heart attack during a morning walk. Hughes was probably best known for his “teen angst” movies (written, produced and/or directed), including Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Some Kind of Wonderful, Pretty in Pink, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. He also had a hand in numerous other well known hits including the Home Alone series, Weird Science and Mr. Mom. Hughes was 59.
