A homeless man who died in Phoenix in 2007 was later revealed to be a millionaire. Richard Leroy Walters, a retired engineer with a Master’s degree, was unmarried and left behind an estate of about $4M when he died. He left behind donations to several organizations, including $400K to NPR (National Public Radio). The executor of his will was Rita Belle, a registered nurse who had befriended him. According to the NPR special about Walters, Belle said that he had no car or home but that she never heard him complain.
