Vernon Forrest, a former world championship boxer, died from multiple gunshot wounds to his back late Saturday night. This happened after a robbery and attempted carjacking at an Atlanta, Georgia, gas station. Varying reports say his girlfriend’s son was either in the car or in the store at time of the robbery. Forrest, who lived in Atlanta, was a member of the 1992 U.S. Olympic team, and once held a WBC championship title (2002) after defeating the reigning welterweight champ Sugar Shane Mosley. Forrest was 38.
